snapshot

Along with the hologram of the andalite Tyrlieon that Kioshi found at the construction site, the young Japanese teen also discovered an old snapshot that looked well worn. It was inexplicably of his father, and himself as a baby. They looked happy.

Kioshi is still not clear on exactly what this means or how it came to be stuck behind the andalite’s hologram.

I included both the undoctored image and one using a texture to give it the look of a piece of paper that was folded and unfolded many times.

You can listen to the sessions on soundcloud, read the summaries, and find out about rules, characters, and players! You can also see the other artwork I have done for the sessions so far. The website and adaptation for tabletop was created by scratch by Falseprophet and it is all VERY amazing.

The Big Three

‘The Sharing: Building a better life’

A group who I have started calling ‘The Big Three’ in our Animorphs tabletop campaign. This is mostly because we have only seen the Visser once and aside from him, in our first three sessions, these controllers have become our first major enemies.

On the left, Tom Renoir, Gillette’s older brother.

In the middle, Mrs. Jamie ‘Crazy Eyes’ Burns, too chipper for her own good.

On the right, Marcus Lee Kendrick, Principal of Monicon, the high school many of the group attends.

Tom and Mrs. Burns work for The Sharing, a Yeerk front organization that touts itself as a youth/charity/activist group. Principal Kendrick worked closely with them during the sponsored weekend retreat to end school violence where our group of animorphs met.

This moment, as well as being a portrait for reference’s sake, happened in session 3 when Katherine and Everett rounded a corner, about to execute their plan and came face to face with the three controllers.

A little background image from the Animorphs Initiative campaign! A Rosenstein family portrait. It was taken years ago, probably the last time the kids would participate. In this image Katherine is 16  and Everett is 7. Their mom is a field forensic analyst and dad is a psychologist.

A request image from the Animorphs Initiative tabletop campaign. Kioshi inspecting and pondering the hologram image that he picked up from the construction site as an owl. Tyrlieon, our first andalite ally standing in a field of yellow grass waving. A striking image we would also all see in our dreams that first night. She seemed to have a specific interest in the young Japanese student as she also handed him the medallion from hew own suit before the group fled.

I asked if the players wanted to see anything specific and Kioshi’s player wanted a shot of him back and the cabin looking at the hologram holding the button/medallion he was given.

Also a detail shot because the hologram was surprisingly fun.

More tabletop Animorphs art (now the campaign has a name Animorphs Initiative!). Here, finally, our Andalite first contact: Tyrlieon-Cabiliac-Jortii. She crash landed grievously injured, but moreso burdened with the knowledge that her end was near (not necessarily related to her injury). She would soon be followed by yeerk forces.

Here she is with the morphing cube about to offer the group our new powers.

Many people have done andailte redesigns, but this is my take. I tried to make biological sense (as much as possible) but keep the air of grace while being a little off-putting.

Our Animorphs group on the night of our first session. The beginning of everything. Here the group is hiding in an unfinished building in the middle of a construction site while crazy alien bullshit goes on behind them. They are notably upset. Pictured in silhouette, a crashed andalite ship and another partially constructed building.

From left to right: Tyrel, Everett, Katherine, Kilo(hana), Kioshi, Gil(ette)

Belour (left) and Tethys (right), our Aarakocra necromancer’s Shadar Kai wights. Super fun deaders to draw. They haven’t been in many game sessions yet, but we know Belour inexplicably likes to stare at the sun (not great for someone from the Shadowfell) and both of them are horrible shots with a longbow (really, really bad rolls, but fun character development).

Did both a clothed and unclothed version because I hate designing armor and like naked deaders.

My magnificent husband will soon be running a homebrew tabletop (dungeons and dragons type) game that will revamp the interesting, nostalgic, dark world of the Animorphs! A world brimming with potential and just screaming to be realistically modernized.

We rolled up characters and ended up with an amazing mix, if I do say so. I was inspired to do a group shot.

From left to right:

Kilohana: native Hawaiian loner, 15 y/o, into extreme sports.

Gillette, or Gil (soft G): French, athletic private school student, 17 y/o, very strong and strong-willed

Katherine: Jewish pre-med student, sister to Everett, 24 y/o, has a lot to prove

Tyrel: Gender non-conforming engineer, ‘sassy’, 23 y/o, vested interest in ‘recreational medicine’
